GHD Sea Spray

Posted by prettyologist on January 4, 2009

GHD Sea Spray: For matte waves-
Just the spray you need for dramatic body and loose, “beachy” (heh) waves.   If you’re addicted to Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, try this – it works the same but is a bit more gentle to your hair- at a fraction of the price.  For the uninitiated, Sea Spray is a lightweight amazing smelling styling spray with great bodifying and texturizing properties.  It makes your hair feel like you just stepped out of the ocean, with actual sea salt in the formula.   Adds body and great texture, with a messy, matte, slightly gritty look.   Spray evenly into damp hair, scrunch and style.  Blow dry for very dramatic body and texture, or try blow drying with a diffuser for even more waves.  It can make your hair feel a little bit gunky, depending on your hair type, but in a good way.   Sea Spray can make hair appear slightly dull from the natural salts, so if you want shine, follow with a spritz of Camera Ready shine spray.  A word of warning: If you have very tangly, dry, damaged, or bleached hair, this is NOT for you!  …trust me.

m.o.p. Styling Tonic

Posted by prettyologist on January 4, 2009

m.o.p. Styling Tonic:  Conditioning Fixative spray-
Want the perfect blow-out?  Want a great looking wash-and-go style with minimal effort?  Then Styling Tonic is just what you need!  Great for medium to thick straight and slightly wavy hairs – Spray evenly onto damp hair, comb into place and air-dry, or blow-dry sections with a brush.   It conditions, smells amazing, and has a light, natural-feeling hold to keep the shape of a blow-out or style.  Styling Tonic is magical!

My Favorite Blow-Out:  Mist Styling Tonic onto clean, towel-dried hair.  Put a dollop of Biosilk Silk Therapy in your hands – rub ‘em together to emulsify, then apply evenly to your hair, starting at the ends or the most damaged hairs, working up to the top of the head.  If you feel like going all-out, apply Root Boost to the roots of the hair too.  Blow dry the roots of your hair first, (upside-down if you want more volume) then, when the roots of your hair are dry, and the ends are damp,  blow-dry sections of your hair with a big paddle brush to smooth it all out.  Fabulous!  Add a finishing product of your choice – categorized here under “Shiny Stuff”.  Or just give it a little spray of Shaper.

Catwalk Camera Ready

Posted by prettyologist on January 4, 2009

Catwalk Camera Ready Weightless shine spray:
Would you like fabulously sleek, shiny hair that also smells like candy?  Then this is the product you need!  It’s a weightless shine spray for the shiniest hair ever.  Camera Ready should be the very last step in your beauty routine, after the hair is completely styled. Camera Ready is great for all hair types, I like it best applied after you’ve set the hair with a coat of Shaper spray.   Fine hair?  Don’t worry!  Camera Ready won’t weigh you down as long as you put Shaper on first!
Other than Shaper, this is my favorite finishing product for hair.   It looks totally sweet in bridal photography and photo shoots, and is a necessity for a great up-do.   If you have frequently colored hair, dry hair, gray hair, curly or wavy hair – your hair may naturally lack shine, and have a dull finish.  Aside from good quality shampoo and conditioner, this is the best thing to give healthy shine to your hair.

-     Added bonus:  do you or your little tyke have super-tangly, dreadlocked hair?  Spray Camera Ready directly into the snarliest of snarls, and comb gently.  It’s great as a de-tangler!

Catwalk Frisky Spray Gel

Posted by prettyologist on January 4, 2009

Catwalk Frisky Spray gel: for body, waves and texture-
Well, it’s the only spray gel that I approve of!  Great for fine to medium-thick hair that’s curly, wavy or straight.  Defines and enhances the look of waves and curls with just enough hold to keep their shape, without making your hair feel like a crispy critter!  If your hair isn’t curly, you’ll still love Frisky.  It adds texture and body, or you can spray it into damp hair and scrunch it up for waves you didn’t even know you had.  (I HATE the word ‘scrunch’, it brings back bad-hair memories from being a teen in the 1990’s- but it does work great with this product!)

Spray Frisky evenly onto damp hair, ‘scrunch, finger-style,  (don’t brush!)  and air-dry for a low maintenance waves, or ‘scrunch, style and dry with a blow dryer and diffuser for more dramatic waves and volume!  If your hair tends to frizz, apply Biosilk Silk Therapy to the hair before or after Frisky.  Frisky can also be used sparingly during the day on dry, already styled hair to freshen up the waves and curls.

Catwalk Root Boost Spray

Posted by prettyologist on January 4, 2009

Catwalk Root Boost: Root lifter for volume and texture:
Man, I love this shit.  It’s an absolute staple here at the Hair Corral.  An aerosol root foam with a directional nozzle- a true necessity for anyone with fine, limp, or flat hairs.  You also need this even if you don’t have flat hairs, but have stubborn cowlicks – especially on the crown of your head.   Read below for application instructions!

- Try this: “The Big Foxy Blowout” Spray liberally and directly into the roots of towel-dried, just-washed hair. Get all the roots, making extra sure to get the crown and top of the head. Part the hair in 1” sections and spray a stripe of Root Boost down each of ‘em. Just the roots, not the rest of the hair, people! Once it’s all sprayed on, get in there with your fingers and rub, rub, massage that product all over the roots of the hair even more. Then, using a hot dryer, blow dry the roots of the hair first- starting with the bottom and back of your head and working toward the front and top of the head. Get all those roots dry before you even think of drying the ends! For maximum volume, keep rubbing and gently agitating the roots of your hair as you dry. Finally, dry the ends, flip your hair over and apply Shaper spray. Or if your hair is wavy, leave the ends damp, flip your hair over and apply Frisky Spray Gel. Or, if your hair is wavy and frizzy (like mine!), flip your hair over, apply Biosilk Silk Therapy, then apply Frisky.

Sebastian Shaper Plus Hairspray

Posted by prettyologist on December 23, 2008

Sebastian Shaper Plus Hairspray:
My second favorite hairspray! You get everything Shaper has to offer, only a lot more of it!   A great strong hold in the same type of low water formula, use it as a finishing spray or an  all-around spray for extremely hard-to-hold hairs.  Don’t try to use this one as a working spray unless you’re a punk rocker or a Texan lady.  This stuff is strong – Your hair will be close to the lord, yes indeed!  Great as a finishing spray – make sure your ‘do is finished, once this stuff is on it freezes into place right quick…   Ready?…GO!!

Sebastian Shaper Hairspray

Posted by prettyologist on December 23, 2008

Sebastian Shaper Hairspray:
My favorite hairspray! – If you went into space, you’d see my own personal hole in the ozone layer over Ballard, just from this stuff.  [Just kidding, right? CFC's haven't been in hairspray propellants since the 80's.]

Shaper is a classic, the beauty industry standard in hairspray.  Workable and brushable hold!  Spray into the roots of dry hair for texture and body, or spray a couple coats onto an already finished style for a firm, but not too crispy-hard hold.    It’s fabulous when used during styling as a working spray – during ratting and shaping,  and always before curling and flat-ironing.   I also like to use it on “second day” or dirty hair, see “The Shaper Fix-Up”.   Most of you know how I hate cheap hairspray – The water they add to the formula is like kryptonite on just-curled or flat-ironed hairs.  Shaper has an almost waterless formula that won’t ruin your new ‘do!  Also when sprayed liberally all over finished style, or even just your perfectly styled bangs, Shaper is a great humidity and rain shield.
-    Try this: “The Shaper Fix-Up”  On a morning you’re not going to wash your hair, shake hair out upside down, fluff it,  brush it a little (if that’s your thing).  Spray a little Shaper into the all the roots, shake your hair out.  Flip your hair back over and spray a little more Shaper on the crown area.
